Dr. Raj Lotwala was born and raised in Southern California. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology from the UC Berkeley.  During his time there, he volunteered at numerous local organizations, including the Berkeley Free Clinic.

 

Before moving to New York to attend dental school at Columbia University, he performed cancer research in the area of tumor markers, and helped develop tests to detect cancers earlier. At Columbia, he graduated among the top in his class, and was awarded a National Health Service Corp full scholarship.

After graduating Columbia, Dr. Raj entered a hospital-based residency program at New York Methodist Hospital,where he first realized his desire to become a dual specialist in orthodontics and pediatric dentistry.  He then moved to Seattle where he received a Master’s Degree in Orthodontics from the University of Washington,  before returning to California and completing the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at University of California San Francisco (UCSF), where he completed his pediatric training  while also obtaining a Master of Science in Oral and Craniofacial Biology.  He received extensive training in traditional braces, Invisalign, removable appliances, surgery, and obstructive sleep apnea.

He is truly a lifelong learner, and loves being able to use his knowledge to make remarkable changes in his patients' lives. During his free time, he loves to spend time with his wife and newborn son.  He also enjoys exploring the Bay Area, trying new restaurants, travelling, and playing his guitar.
